March 16, 2022

WASHINGTON – In today's hearing of the Oversight Subcommittee on Environment titled, "Fighting Fire with Fire: Evaluating the Role of Forest Management in Reducing Catastrophic Wildfires," Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi discussed sustainable environmental management with witnesses, including songwriter and land conservation activist Carole King and Dr. Dominick A. DellaSala, Chief Scientist for the Wild Heritage Project of Earth Island Institute. The far-ranging discussion touched on the necessity of protecting forests and transitioning off fossil fuels, as part of a comprehensive strategy against climate change as well as the role that individuals can play in environmental policy.

"I'm grateful to all our witnesses today for shining a light on the vital role that effective forest management plays not only in the conservation of our natural wonders, but also in combatting global climate change as part of a comprehensive approach that embraces clean energy and green technology," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "As Ms. King rightly noted about individual activism, ‘politics matters.' We all have a responsibility to stay informed and engaged on important issues, including conservation, because decisions are made by those who show up."
