Congressman Krishnamoorthi Denounces Trump Administration Plan Designed To Defund Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement in response to reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President Trump will be instituting a domestic gag rule to prohibit any Title X family planning clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, from providing or even discussing abortion with patients:
“This administration has been attacking women’s reproductive rights since day one, but today’s announcement reaches even beyond those egregious actions. To deny patients full information about their own health care and deprive millions of Americans affordable and accessible health care and family planning would be disastrous for our nation. We cannot allow attacks on science and women’s rights to continue.”
Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of health services for low-income women across the country, and their 650 health centers allow 2.7 million men, women, and young people each year to access high-quality health care. One in five women will visit Planned Parenthood for vital preventive health care services—including family planning, cancer screenings, and sexually transmitted infection/HIV testing. Every year, Planned Parenthood affiliates provide educational programs and outreach to 1.5 million young people and adults.
