Congressman Krishnamoorthi Demands Swift Investigation Of Tragic Parasailing Death Of Elk Grove Village Constituent in Florida

June 6, 2022

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Today, in response to the tragic death of Supraja Alaparthi of Elk Grove Village, who was killed in a parasailing accident in the Florida Keys that left her son and nephew injured, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi called for an immediate police investigation of the incident and a review of parasailing safety rules to ensure such a tragedy does not happen again. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, while the family was parasailing, the wind began to pick up, causing the captain to increasingly lose control of the boat to the wind. In response, the captain of the boat cut the family loose, leading them to collide with a bridge.

"My heart is heavy in thinking of Supraja Alparthi's family at this difficult time as they grieve her tragic loss and look to the recovery of her son and nephew from an accident that should have never happened," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "I urge the police to act quickly to hold all those responsible swiftly accountable and for regulatory authorities to address the safety concerns around parasailing and the rules governing it to ensure no family faces such an avoidable tragedy again."
