Congressman Krishnamoorthi Criticizes the Janus v. AFSCME Decision

June 27, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court decision in Janus v. AFSCME which found that public sector unions could not legally require workers to pay for “fair share fees”:

“For more than 40 years, the ability of public sector workers to stand together to negotiate their wages, benefits, and working conditions has been a long-held legal precedent. If unions are going to be required to provide services to all public employees regardless of whether they are union members or not, all employees should have to pay their fair share of administrative and bargaining costs to receive bargained-for benefits.  This decision allows employees to free-ride on the efforts of unions in representing all workers, and undermines all workers.  This is not fair or right.”
