Congressman Krishnamoorthi Cosponsors the LEASH DOGE Act to Require Transparency and Accountability for DOGE

February 25, 2025

WASHINGTON – This week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi cosponsored the Legislative Enforcement Against Setbacks from Harmful DOGE Actions Act (LEASH DOGE Act), which would require the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to submit a public report to Congress listing all its employees and advisors. The bill would require DOGE employees to remove the veil of secrecy and identify themselves as well as mandate disclosure of the status of their background checks, clearances, and any conflicts of interest. Further, the legislation would require that DOGE testify before Congress on what types of sensitive information DOGE employees have access to in federal government systems. Finally, DOGE would be required to establish a public website to be updated weekly with information on its employees’ roles, data on federal employee layoffs and federal funding cuts, and points of contact who can answer questions from the American people. If DOGE fails to comply with these requirements, the bill will prohibit the use of congressionally appropriated funds for DOGE activities, reminding DOGE that it is Congress that holds the power of the purse.

“Since President Trump took office, DOGE has continually usurped Congressional authority and national security safeguards to make unauthorized programmatic and spending decisions, all while accessing American taxpayers’ most sensitive information without any oversight or transparency as to the individuals undertaking these initiatives,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “As we provide oversight and accountability over DOGE’s actions through other legislation and investigations, it is also essential that Congress ensure transparency in DOGE’s activities. I am proud to cosponsor the LEASH DOGE Act to do that by mandating disclosures of DOGE’s personnel, its activities, and the consequences of its actions.”
