Congressman Krishnamoorthi Calls for Transparency on All Financial Ties Between Trump Administration Officials and Saudi Arabia, Investigation of President Trump’s Failure To Nominate an Ambassador

October 23, 2018

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement in response to the Trump administration's ongoing failure to hold the government of Saudi Arabia accountable for the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi:

"In the wake of Jamal Khashoggi's brutal murder, the resulting coverup by the government of Saudi Arabia, and the Trump administration's failure to hold the Saudi regime to account, I'm calling for full transparency of financial ties between Trump Administration officials and Saudi Arabia to expose any potential conflicts of interest as defined by the standards of the US Office of Government Ethics. Furthermore, I'm calling for an immediate Congressional investigation into the failure of President Trump to even nominate an ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which raises substantial questions on its own in a region of fundamental strategic interest. It is vital that the government of Saudi Arabia and responsible officials are held accountable for their role in the death of Jamal Khashoggi, but it is also vital that any Trump administration conflicts of interest and failures in related matters be brought to light."
