Congressman Krishnamoorthi Calls For Attorney General Sessions To Inform Congress Of The Full Extent And Nature Of His Contacts With The Russian Government

July 21, 2017

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement in response to the Washington Post's report that Attorney General Jeff Sessions discussed campaign-related matters with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in 2016, an account citing US officials which contradicts both the Attorney General's sworn testimony and his correction of it:

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions must immediately inform Congress of the full and complete nature of his contacts with Russian agents. If these allegations are true as reported, the Attorney General is not fit to perform his duties as our nation's chief law enforcement officer.

When a foreign adversary knows an American official has deceived or omitted vital information from our government, it creates a fundamental counterintelligence vulnerability that can render that official irreparably compromised. By repeatedly failing to accurately disclose his foreign contacts to Congress, the Attorney General has potentially compromised himself as one of our nation's top counterintelligence officials.

When senior administration officials, whether serving as Attorney General, National Security Advisor, or as a Senior Advisor to the President, have potentially been compromised by hostile powers, it is vital that Democrats and Republicans come together to address any national security vulnerabilities that have been created and guarantee those failures will not be repeated."
