Congressman Krishnamoorthi Blasts Trump Budget Again Following Report that Illinois Stands to Lose $24 Billion in Health Care Funding

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) issued the following statement today in response to a new analysis from the Urban Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which finds that Illinois would lose $24 billion in health care spending under the House-passed Trump tax and reconciliation bill:

“This bill would devastate health care for millions—ripping coverage away from working families, seniors, and children across Illinois. Our hospitals would lose nearly $10 billion, and patients would be left with higher costs, longer waits, and fewer options. We must defeat this reckless legislation before it does irreparable harm to every Illinoisan — whether on Medicaid, Medicare, or private health insurance.”

The analysis shows that repealing enhanced premium tax credits and slashing Medicaid under the Trump-backed plan would increase the number of uninsured Americans by 16 million over the next decade. Nationally, health care spending would fall by $1.06 trillion and hospitals would face $283 billion in unpaid care from the newly uninsured.

In Illinois, the consequences would be especially severe:

• $24 billion total loss in health care spending
• $9.9 billion cut from hospitals alone
• $6.4 billion increase in uncompensated care costs
• $2.3 billion hit to physician services and over $5 billion in lost spending on prescriptions and other essential care
