Congressman Krishnamoorthi Responds to President Trump’s Decision to Lift Sanctions on Syria

WASHINGTON – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement that he would be lifting sanctions on Syria:

"The Syrian people have endured unimaginable suffering through years of dictatorship, war, repression, and economic hardship. As Syria turns the page on a brutal regime, new leadership should chart a course toward stability, human rights, and inclusive governance.

Lifting sanctions is a meaningful step when it comes along with concrete progress from Syria working toward a more just and democratic society. The path to true recovery for Syria lies in economic revival and in upholding the dignity and freedoms of all Syrians."
