Krishnamoorthi Blasts Trump’s Plan to Stage Mass Immigration Raids in Chicago

CHICAGO – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement regarding reports that the Trump administration plans to use Naval Station Great Lakes to stage mass immigration raids in Chicago:

“President Trump’s reported plan to stage mass immigration raids out of Naval Station Great Lakes is reckless and unacceptable. Using a U.S. Navy base as a detention and deportation hub for increasingly militarized operations risks sweeping up American citizens and legal permanent residents, as this administration has already done repeatedly. These tactics tear families apart while undermining constitutionally protected rights across our region. I will be monitoring this situation as it escalates and intend to conduct my oversight duties, just as I attempted to do earlier this summer. Given this administration's demonstrated record of flagrant abuses of power, we need accountability and transparency immediately. No one should have to navigate this fear and uncertainty alone, and I will continue working to hold this administration accountable for its unlawful, unjust, and un-American tactics. President Trump may be willing to trample on the Constitution, but the people of Chicago never will — and neither will I.”
