Krishnamoorthi Blasts Trump Administration’s ICE Militarization and Move to Federalize Illinois National Guard

CHICAGO — Today, in the wake of increasingly militarized ICE activities across the state and the Trump Administration’s preparations to federalize members of the Illinois National Guard, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement:

“After weeks of masked ICE raids tearing through neighborhoods, detaining legal residents and U.S. citizens, and spreading fear across Illinois communities, the Trump Administration is now trying to federalize our National Guard without the consent of our Governor. This escalation isn’t about keeping anyone safe — it’s about consolidating power and intimidating the very people our government is meant to protect.

I have the utmost respect for the men and women of the Illinois National Guard, who serve honorably to protect our communities in times of need. But Governor Pritzker is absolutely right to resist this latest act of federal overreach. Our National Guard should never be used as political props, and Illinois will not stand by while the Trump Administration tries to turn law enforcement into a weapon of fear.”
